To blog or not to blog - A blog on why I don't blog |

The real geek in me frequently begs for more time over other personas and asks me to start a blog which at the very least will send more updates to this website. It truly is a constant battle between the passionate technology evangelist in me and a more balanced self that constantly cautions me against disadvantages of such decisions from my heart.
The geek points to the availability of blogging module in the DotNetNuke 3.01 version and an upgrade from my older version is just 4 hours from the word 'Go'. The balanced mind points to the numerous times when I have rejected project proposals that were inspired purely by the availability of newer technology and asks me to apply my lessons learned from business into personal life.
The geek argues that a blog gives a complete picture of my thoughts, beliefs and values and would truly present a description of my personality. The manager in me points to the fact that most of those objectives are already achieved through this website and a resource (time) intensive project like blogging isn't going to substantially improve upon that.
The geek argues that is very easy to start a blog, while the manager retorts, "it is difficult to maintain one". The techie notes that all thought leaders, many of them my own role models, blog daily and it is imperative that I follow their footsteps. The mind defends with the fact that most of role-models are paid for their blogging and with a whole lots things going on in my life like work, family, PMI, volunteering activities and other personal development projects, there is simply no time to devote to blogs.
The portfolio manager in me continuously asks what is the quantitative or qualitative ROI on this investment/commitment, for which the passionate nerd doesn't have an answer. Thus, after a lengthy battle, I have decided yet another time, that I don't plan to blog. One more time, the mind wins over heart. Or did it really? |
